Microsoft uses the Bully Pulpit

Rants & Such, Windows Add comments

So with Vista sales not where they should be and for good reason, it sucks, and nothing to do since they have another 7 years before they have to deliver the next version of Windows.

Microsoft can’t beat Linux at thier own game so they corner Novell and now they are coming after the rest of the OpenSourced Community.

Microsoft is dying and we are watching them fall, and it sure is sweet. Problem is they have tons of money and can try to beat up the Open Sourced community all they want cause you can’t beat the price of FREE and Microsoft knows it.

Microsoft claims that free and open-source software violates more than 230 of its patents, according to a magazine report published on Sunday.

In an interview with Fortune, Microsoft top lawyer Brad Smith alleged that the Linux kernel violates 42 Microsoft patents, while its user interface and other design elements infringe on a further 65. OpenOffice.org is accused of infringing 45, along with 83 more in other free and open-source programs, according to the Fortune article.

I know Biff hates Patents and now so do I. Microsoft can go to hell. They are theives and are up to no good!

Torvalds writes: ‘It’s certainly a lot more likely that Microsoft violates patents than Linux does.’ He added: ‘Basic operating system theory was pretty much done by the end of the 1960s. IBM probably owned thousand of really “fundamental” patents… The fundamental stuff… has long, long since lost any patent protection.’”

You know, this whole business is BS. The patent system is broken, completely. I am surprise apple or Microsoft haven’t patented the damn cursor you use for your mouse. Just look here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:Software_patents2.JPG) for an example, the number of patents have skyrocketed in the past few years, why try and innovate and develop software when you can patent one thing and then get licensing fees from the wold. I am surprised that no one has patented breathing and then blackmailed the world.

The best proof of how horrible the patent system has gotten is this… http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patent_for_exercising_a_cat. A man has actually been able to approve a patent application for “a method of exercising a cat by getting it to follow a spot generated by a laser pointer”. Is that not the most absurd thing you have ever heard?

The truth is simple, Microsoft has woken up to the fact that the average consumer is more intelligent than they thought, and instead of sitting around being spoon fed second rate products (see virtual PC, frontpage, Vista w/DRM, etc…) they will do something about it themselves and cut MS out of the picture. I’m going to continue using linux whatever these patents add up to, its all ridiculous and I dare MS to sue someone over it, they would make fools out of themselves because as soon as they publicize the code that is patented, linux coders will rewrite / remove/workaround them and void them entirely.
