New Domains

So I had one of those hair brained ideas today in the shower and with COMMON right around the corner I had better get to work on it. I want to build up the System i blogging community and I keep asking for it so I am going to put my money where my mouth is.

I purchased today two domains, SystemiAddict.com (We all knew I should have already owned this) & LotusAddict.com

Now your asking what in the hell are you going to do with it and I am not really sure right yet. I have a bunch of ideas, but I want to rebuild SystemiAddict.com and then would in time build an almost identical idea out of LotusAddict.com. I am not looking for money or some big payout, but I want to build and I think we do that with bloggers, idea people and linkage. It all sounds really easy in my head. Here is what I need. I need some good PHP programmers. I can’t afford to host it on Domino or I would, so I am going to host it using PHP, Wordpress, and Mambo Server (Joomla). I need some custom things done and I don’t have any money. So if you want to help that would be great I can pay you in kind words.

So if I do build it will anyone come? I think so but what I want to do is get people who want to blog on a regular basis and want to post original System i or Lotus content and don’t have the means to do it or the want to build a site. I will fill that void. I know there are sites out there that do this but I think if I build something nice people will want to be here more then all over the place and then we can offer you a feeds page that you can kind of customize so you can get all the stuff you want from my sites and from other and all the while being an Addict!

It’s all just in my head and has so far cost me about $23. So I am not out much and I needed to buy one Domain anyway, right Trevor? I might have some advertisements too in order to offset the cost but the banners will be the cheapest on the web I promise. So if you want to advertise get in now and I can lock you in for some time for being here before the clicks start happening. I was thinking $500 for a year to start out. They have to be specific to the content. No crap!

I need to really put this on paper. Also consider that this blog your reading right now with out any advertisement gets about 6000 hits day. Not bad for one Addict now what can a group of use bring?

So we have 2 Domino 8.0.1 Servers set up now. They are both Windows Server boxes and are nothing to write home about at all. Both are pretty snappy and in fact are pretty impressive too. We upgraded one from 7.0.2 and the other was a fresh install. All went well on both so I would say I am pretty impressed at this point. I am going to upgrade some Linux/Domino servers and let you know how that goes. It should be pretty smooth like always.

Report back here your Domino stories and lets see what happens.

I have some buddies up in Mass. and wanted to make sure the folks from Lotus in the Boston area know we all like 8.0.1, it’s Wicked Nice!

I have been using it for the past 24 hours and I can tell you now, this is what we all have been complaining asking for in this version of Lotus 8. Lots of the features we wanted back are there. I am really impressed with it and have shown it to a few end users and they want it NOW!

So way to go IBM and LOTUS, it’s a job well done. Now all we have to do as Lotus people is leverage it properly and everything in the universe will be perfect, at least until we find a bug.

I need some help people!

I need access to a System i for some very small tasks. Mostly to build screen shots of items I am going to be training on, and while we have a few at the company I work for gaining access is rather restricted. Soooo, if any of you know of a System i I can share, not abuse, just look around and write some QSHELL scripts them please let me know about it either in the comments on the post or you can email me. If you know of a service then post it here. I would like to know more.

I was out of pocket last week because my wife’s dad passed away(Holly was also my favorite father-in-law). He would have liked that little joke.I appreciate all of the support and kind words from all of you and wanted to take time to pay tribute to a man who did not know the word “no” or “can’t”. He was a hard working farmer who always had time to play with his grandkids. One of which was my son.Holly started farming when he was 14 because his father passed away and someone needed to run the farm. He and his brother Donnie were masterminds of farm engineering. They invented a wonderful piece of farm equipment that made life easier but never had the money to make it their own. According to Holly, John Deere saw the invention and started putting it on every on of “those things” they made. I don’t know what it was called but it had a cleaver name.He had a way with words, and could in fact fix anything. I know to many times when something at home would break my wife, Kelly, would tell me to just call Dad to find out how to fix it. He always knew and sometimes that bugged me but other times I at least had someone to thank when it worked. He was honest as well and expected you to be too. If he didn’t like something you did he just told you, I can respect that and I am sure you can too.His health had been going down hill for some time but Holly was no quitter. He lived a long life and was happy with everything he had done. It was painful to see him go, but I know he is not laboring for air and not in any kind of pain and that is the most important part.It was a wonderful funeral, if that is possible and a great party after. I just wanted to share with all of you the remarkable person who was my father-in-law. I try not to get to “big headed” about my status in the System i community and other technical things. I have always had a profound respect for favorite my aussie blogger, Mr. Trevor Perry, and I have know him to sound a little like Angus the IT Chap at times as well.I just found out that I will be presenting at COMMON this year with Trevor, and oh what and honor that will be. I think Trevor is the reason I started all of this. There are many other fine bloggers that I hope we can have there as well and pay them some respect too. I would love to see everyone who attends COMMON show up and give us feedback, but I am not sure how that will happen without giving away a new System i Express to each of them.

I was helping Jim Grisanzio out with a little question and for some reason he quoted me. Thanks Jim. Living in Japan was a treat for me. The Navy did me a favor by putting me in Japan. I truly enjoyed it.

So I am going to try to drop about 40 pounds. I am a bit overweight and am starting to get aggravated with my fat arse. I don’t want to be a ripped health nut but I do want to be in shape and looking good. I am not going to go nuts and starve myself either. That is just dumb and I have tried it in the past and gotten no where. I think the best thing to do is just limit my intake and start doing a bit more activity then I have in the past. A slow build up of sorts. I did get fat yesterday and I am not going to get slim tomorrow.Slow and steady!

So I am still wondering why my wife is telling me there are no packages from you all out there, my blog fans? What gives. I would have sent you a present…..JUST KIDDING.

I am stuck in Newark, NJ right now waiting for a plane from Raleigh, NC so that I can take it back to Charlotte, NC. So it’s now 4:10 PM and the plane is off the ground and on the way. With any luck I will be home tonight. I have never been in or out of Newark, NJ without any problems. There is always a weather problem up here and this has to be the worst located airport with the winds. Once I get home we are going to drive directly to Savannah for the weekend. So much for taking it easy tonight.

I don’t know if any of you fly out or EWR but it’s always a pain.

Well wish me luck!
