I am tried of people having to apologize to China for noticing their horrible problem with pollution. Every American should have gotten off the plane with a mask on. The pictures are pathetic, and I don’t see me watching any of the Olympics, not because of Tibet or China being communist, but because we are all getting blamed for the lie that is “Global Warming” yet now one is holding China responsible for their contribution and we now can see it from the pictures.

@AXEL - First of all you are sourcing a WIKI. You can’t source a WIKI. You have to source a source that can be a little more factual.
I don’t buy your numbers, China has far more 2 stroke engine then we do in the US, in fact most of thier vehicles are 2 stroke which created more pollution and smog than a 4 stroke engine in that it does not burn oil, China also has no restrictions on pollution on vehicles so they have a problem and of course pictures do lie, every picture I have ever seen of China is full of smog. We can go to Chicago, Dallas or even Atlanta and see some SMOG but not like cities and China and it’s not just the big ones it’s the small ones too.
I also don’t know how you measure CO2, that would be like measure COW fart and it’s a guess and a biased one at that.
In order for your theory to work you then have to say, based on some facts I found on a Wiki provided by and biased pro-global warming internal hate group, that Americans create more CO2 and yet China has a far worse SMOG problem because…..
This is all bunk science, you read the information offered and then can’t see the problem or the smog in China and it’s not new. America has some of the cleanest cars in the world and some of the most stringent air laws.

The wikipedia article claims that the data is from an US Government agency.
I do believe it. Richer nations simply produce more CO2 than poorer nations. I fear that environment laws does only help to some extent so far. Asking question where more environment related research takes place, you get very different result.
There’s plenty to bitch about China, but don’t lets blame them for anything.
People that have invented the board-game Go simply can’t be all bad.
EU - US comparision isn’t fair in that respect neither, as Europe now has lots of economically poorer nations as new members.

AXEL - I have no idea what you are saying now so I think we are done at this point.
The fact of the matter is this. No matter what we do the EARTH which is HUGE mind you will figure out a way to correct it. It has for millions of years. This time if no different that than other times. It will correct itself.
As for the MASKS which was the issue to begin with and my point was, don’t apologize for being right is the point. I am tired of spineless people cowering down to others for being in the right. If the air is bad and you needed a mask then guess what, you wear a mask and don’t make excuses for it, the shameful part to this entire conversation is that they had a chance to say, China is a dirty smoggy place and they didn’t, the were cowards.

Yes, Earth can correct itself, over huge spans of time (much longer than we have been around), if the cause of the problem goes away. Unfortunately for us (you included) Earth’s primary way of correcting bad things that have happened to it usually result in mass extinctions. Is this your solution?

Brett, I dare you to prove without a doubt there is such a thing as GLOBAL WARMING. No scientist can prove without a doubt that it’s a truth or not. It’s like being in the middle of winter and saying , it’s never going to get warm, and yet somehow it does.
The earth warms and cools itself, it’s all very simple and to think we have anything to do with it is silly. You really think we have that big an impact on the weather…..of course we have been altering the weather so well, we stopped all those tornadoes this year that killed people, we stopped those earthquakes and the hurricanes are not coming anymore either….we are so effecting at managing our planet. I think the funniest part to your argument is that you believe it without so much as a bit of conclusive proof. Of course in the 1970 we were going to spread coal dust over the poles to warm the planet up because it was to cold? Odd we warmed the hell out it in 30 years, and at the same time the people who claim global warming is true, fail to acknowledge the cold era from 1950 - 1980, and will not even discuss the Little Ice Age of the the 1800’s when there was no summer?
Please don’t try to put words in my mouth and think that my answer is extinction. That is insulting and ridiculous.
The problem is Al Gore has a movie full of lies that the masses, maybe you, are watching and thinking is true.
So the earth heats up, melts the ice caps which cool the ocean, and then cool the atmosphere, that will in turn make the poles colder and the CYCLE goes on.
The proof is that when scientist take a look at the ice on the on the poles it’s been warmer in the past 1000 years than it is now and we only have 100 - 200 years of recorded weather an the earth is how old Einstein?
We don’t have enough data to figure out anything. It like saying I am getting fatter and you have been recording my weight for 3 seconds. That is not enough data to make an educated deduction.
That is why we measure weight over days and weeks because we have to wait for a CYCLE to happen or skip lunch because your 3 seconds of data tells you nothing and Al Gore is screaming “DAVID IS GETTING FATTER< WATCH OUT!” when he has only a few seconds of data and there isn’t a scale in the room to verify anything.
Your post has a few holes in it like SWISS CHEESE buddy! But thanks for the post.

Yes David, absolute proof, without a shadow of a doubt, that current CO2 levels are an order of magnitude higher than they have been in hundreds of thousands of years. Scientists (Remember them? Real, impartial scientists, NOT paid off/bribed/influenced by some political party or logyist group) They take a core sample of ice that spans from hundreds of thousands of years ago, through to today. They look at the air bubbles in those core samples, and measure the level of gasses, including CO2. The current levels are many many times higher than as far as they can go back.
Your short-sightedness reeks of the stereotypical “pave the planet” uneducated (won’t be educated more like it) attitude that got us in the mess we are in now.

Ummm, so… you are ok with that? The ice caps melting IS the problem David! Don’t you get it? Being all safe and inland it wouldn’t realy effect you of too much. But the millions of people around the world that live in coastal areas, may disagree with your conclusions, especially when their land disappears under water - including a large chunks of the USA.
Of course the massive drop in salinity from the ice melting will stall the ocean currents (just like they did before the last ice age) so yes that would cool the planet and yes earthe would (ha ha) “fix itself”. But the current inhabitants of the planet would be generally screwed in the process.
Yes as human’s I’m sure we’d survive, we are the ultimate adapters, but at what cost?

BTW David I completely agree with your topic! Hell no we should not apologize! The whole team should go around with masks on. Why on earth are we cowtowing the Chinese on this matter? It certainly seems they bought/lobbied their way into getting the games there with the known pollutino issue they have. Why would it have been approved?

@Brett- The world is not STATIC, it is and always will be in a state of change. We have to accept that we are never under any circumstances going to HELP the earth, we are leaches and were put here for a reason, that I do not know about, but there is a plan I would suspect. I have to live my life. Most people feel the same way and the GLOBAL WARMING package is a gimmick to sell more stuff labeled GREEN. Just like ORGANIC is to food.
I would like to think we could do some good but I think we are all fooling ourselves if we think we can stop it and continue to be productive.
Thanks for agreeing with me on the apologize. China needs to go to hell, and while I don’t agree with Bush I do like what he said in Thailand about China, I don’t think McCain or Obama would have ever said that. I guess when your a lame duck you speak your mind, problem is he has been lame for some time….
