SUN has been floundering for years now and I continue to wonder over and over again how they can survive with crappy to average hardware coming from them and a FREE OS. While they are a very large company they have very little that interest me in an IT roll. IBM has always seen SUN as a big issue but in recent years IBM and others have spanked them all over the IT playground. Sadly there are half wit managers out there who think SUN Solaris should replace IBMs tried and true hardware/software systems. POWER is where it’s at!
Sadly you get what you pay for and SUNs new hardware pizza box server are sad cheap little units that look like laptops in flimsy steel server boxes with crap for engineering. I don’t wonder why SUN is failing.
So with that all said here is a LINK to the Article about SUN being for sale.

Funny you say this, about 3 or 4 years ago I was invited to Redmond and presented a pitch for a competitive job which included the idea that MS should buy SUN, their stock was so low they could have been bought in petty cash.
Suggested then that they should do it to hedge the Unix side as well as grow harwdare platform, ala IBM.
Or better, kill Java before Sun made it open source. Yes, this was before any idea of it being open sourced came out.
Looking back, it was the right move, but I wasn’t interviewing with executives there and they could only see the role they wanted for me, not my views of the IT world.

I just find it funny. For reasons only a few people will know what. Sun has always been a wishy washy company with a hodge podge of products that no one seems to get.
